Fear is so smart. It will do anything to protect us. It will do anything to keep us safe in our comfort zone. Our job is to spot fear and work to override it so we can achieve our dreams. It’s not easy. It’s a daily fight. It’s so much easier to behave in the ways where we know what the outcomes will be. Our brain chooses a familiar hell over an unfamiliar heaven. You have to be delulu, you have to be audacious. You have to push against the grain of human nature to play big.
As an athlete, I had to try out for teams. I had to say out loud that I believed I was good enough. I had to show up and go for it, but it started with that self-belief. It meant facing external criticism. Facing people around me who judged my confidence, who didn’t see me the way I did. You would think that being brave would garner instant support, but it doesn’t. Why? Is it that our dreams niggle at others who let fear win? I don’t have the answer. I just know that to make my dream come true, I had to find support around me, but first I had to believe in myself. I had to ask “Why NOT me?”. Other people’s criticism is just an obstacle on the hero’s journey, but they shouldn’t get final say. I don’t want my story to end with “she let others decide”. No way.
Running this company as a solo entrepreneur, I have to find that support every day. Sometimes it’s from sales, your beautiful love notes, likes and views on social media, partnerships and collaborations…but ultimately every day I have to support myself. I think if I boiled LITZI down to one thought, it would be this: take the time to sit with your dreams, write them down, ask your self what you want to feel and give yourself the agency to make it happen. Every day. Believe that you deserve to accomplish what sets your heart on fire. You deserve to spend the time, the money, the energy and the focus on yourself, no matter what others say or what fear tells you.
I hope that wearing the AUDACITY necklace is your reminder to support yourself every single day. That despite the naysayers, look for the people that believe in you and ultimately, see the face in the mirror as the most important support you need. It all begins with you.
And know that I am here and that I believe in you. There is no dream too big, if you take the big risks and small steps every day. Let fear crumble like the liar that it is.
